Visakhapatnam District Open Chess Selections 2025 Concludes Successfully at Andhra University
Visakhapatnam, June 1, 2025 – The vibrant campus of Andhra University played host to the Visakhapatnam District Open Chess Selections – 2025, a keenly contested tournament organized by Chaitanya Chess Academy on behalf of the All Visakha Chess Association.
The event witnessed a massive turnout with 224 participants vying for top honors in the Open category, conducted across seven Swiss-format rounds. The level of competition was fierce, but it was Gorli Nyna who emerged victorious with a perfect score of 7 points, clinching the first place along with a ₹1500 cash prize.

Vamsi Krishna R – 6 points – ₹1000
Venkateswara Rao D – 6 points – ₹800
These outstanding players have earned the honor of representing Visakhapatnam District at the upcoming State Open Chess Championship – 2025, on 7th & 8th of June to be held in NTR District.
The prize distribution ceremony was a grand affair, with winners receiving trophies, certificates, and cash prizes, cheered on by an enthusiastic audience and esteemed guests.
Dignitaries and Officials
The tournament was graced by Smt. Sunitha Garu and Dr. Babu Rao, Tournament Director and President of the All Visakha Chess Association. Their presence added great prestige to the event.
The opening ceremony was honored by Shri A. Suresh Garu, President of the Andhra Chess Association, whose encouragement and support continue to uplift chess in the region.

The smooth conduct of the event was ensured by a dedicated team of arbiters: MVS Prasad, Raviteja, Krishna Mohan, Bhargav, and Durga.

This event marked yet another proud moment for the All Visakha Chess Association, showcasing not only the growing interest in chess within our district but also the remarkable talent emerging from every corner of our region.
With 224 players competing across seven intense rounds, the tournament stood as a true celebration of strategy, discipline, and sporting spirit. I extend heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants who made this event memorable. The selected players will now represent Visakhapatnam at the State Open Chess Championship – 2025, and we wish them the very best.
