Chess: Krishna Varenya, Divya Darshini rule Visakhapatnam U-13
VISAKHAPATNAM, July 6 – A field of 191 budding tacticians converged on Visakha Valley School yesterday for the Visakhapatnam District Under-13 Open & Girls Chess Selections-2025, organised by Sri Chess Academy on behalf of the All Visakha Chess Association (AVCA)
Perfect score in Open
Krishna Varenya swept the seven-round Swiss with a flawless 7/7, pocketing the champion’s purse of ₹ 500.
Shiven Kanakala followed with 6 points, good for runner-up honours and ₹ 400.
Girls crown decided in six rounds
Divya Darshini Moida claimed the Girls title on 6/6, matching the Open champion’s strike rate and earning ₹ 500.
Afsheen Mohammed finished second, taking home ₹ 400.
The top two from each section will don Visakhapatnam colours at the AP State U-13 Open & Girls Championship, slated for Krishna District, Aug. 2–3.
