Chess for Social Change: Chaitanya Academy Establishes Learning Centre for Poor Children in Visakhapatnam”
Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh – Joining the statewide movement to mark International Chess Day, Chaitanya Chess Academy, Visakhapatnam, launched an inspiring initiative to promote chess education among underprivileged children through the establishment of Sri Rama Yuva Vignana Kendram, a project supported by the Care & Love Foundation.
The programme was formally inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Baburao Rangala, President of All Visakha Chess Association, whose participation added immense value to the event. Dr. Rangala lauded the initiative as a forward-looking step in making intellectual sport accessible to all sections of society, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The project was envisioned and led by Mrs. Sri Chaitanya, Director of Chaitanya Chess Academy, who responded proactively to the call given by Sri Adusumilli Suresh garu, President of the Andhra Chess Association, urging affiliated academies and leaders to reach out to orphanages, blind schools, and under-resourced educational institutions during International Chess Day celebrations.
Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Chaitanya emphasized the importance of providing chess opportunities to children who lack resources but possess immense potential. “Chess can change lives. It sharpens the mind, instills discipline, and opens pathways that extend beyond the game itself,” she stated. The Kendram will function as a permanent learning centre, offering free chess training to children from underprivileged backgrounds, thus laying a strong foundation for future rated players and well-rounded thinkers.
The initiative reflects the larger vision of Sri A. Suresh garu, who continues to inspire a grassroots chess movement across Andhra Pradesh by integrating chess into the lives of children in need. His emphasis on “One Move Can Change a Life” continues to motivate academies, officials, and educators to take meaningful action.
The Andhra Chess Association congratulates Chaitanya Chess Academy, Care & Love Foundation, and all stakeholders involved for this impactful endeavour. The launch of Sri Rama Yuva Vignana Kendram stands as a powerful example of how chess can be used not just as a game—but as a catalyst for education, equality, and empowerment.
