Part-Time Teacher, Full-Time Visionary: Chess Finds a Home at Good Samaritan Children's Shelter, Tanuku
Tanuku | July 20, 2025
In a powerful example of how passion and purpose can redefine lives, Mr. Jalumuri Rambabu, Chief Coach of Pranavi Chess Academy, has initiated a long-term chess coaching program for the children of Good Samaritan Children’s Home, Tanuku — an initiative inspired by the statewide campaign of the Andhra Chess Association marking International Chess Day 2025.
This mission is more than a gesture; it is a dream nurtured by a humble yet determined man from a middle-class background, who works as a part-time school teacher during the day — and a full-time changemaker in the world of chess.
Chess: A Ray of Light at Good Samaritan Home
Located in Tanuku, a vibrant cultural hub in West Godavari district known for its educational ethos and community warmth, the Good Samaritan Children’s Home offers shelter, education, and care to over 60 orphaned and underprivileged children. Under the motherly stewardship of Smt. Santhi Kumari, the home radiates a nurturing environment where children are raised not just with shelter but with dignity, discipline, and hope.
When approached by Mr. Rambabu and his mentor Sri Moganti Suresh, Santhi Kumari immediately embraced the initiative, deeply touched by the values chess brings to a child’s growth — from discipline and patience to decision-making and resilience.
“We are truly blessed to partner with the Andhra Chess Association and Pranavi Chess Academy. This is not just a game—it’s a life-shaping journey for our children,” said Santhi Kumari with heartfelt gratitude.
A Humble Warrior’s Mission
For Mr. Rambabu, this was no casual assignment. Despite limited means and commitments as a part-time educator, he saw this opportunity as a moral responsibility. With the support of ACA’s vision and guidance from his mentor, he pledged to personally conduct bi-weekly coaching sessions at the home.
“I may not have much, but I have my skill — and if it can change even one child’s life, I will consider it my greatest achievement,” said Rambabu, whose dream is to transform every child in the home into a chess-literate individual, and from there, sculpt potential champions through further professional training.
The Larger Vision of ACA
ch campaign under the slogan:
“One Move Can Change a Life.”
Driven by the leadership of Sri Adusumilli Suresh Garu, President, and Sri K. Jagadish Garu, Secretary, ACA’s statewide programs aim to bring chess to the unreached — particularly children in orphanages, rural areas, and disadvantaged communities.
A Home, A Game, A Future
The collaboration at Good Samaritan is not just about pieces on a board. It’s about a new narrative of hope in Tanuku — where a dedicated coach, a compassionate caretaker, and an empowering sport have come together to give sixty young lives a new purpose.
Through this inspiring effort, chess becomes more than a game — it becomes a bridge from survival to self-discovery.
