Chess Brings Power to Young Hearts at Manasu Girl Care Center, Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam | July 20, 2025
In a quiet lane of Srinivasanagar near Simhachalam Road, a powerful transformation has begun — not with wealth or fame, but with pawns and queens. The Manasu Girl Care Center, run by Kidpower – A Welfare Society, is now the latest beacon of hope in the Andhra Chess Association’s initiative to spread chess among underprivileged children.
At the heart of this initiative stands Sri Chess Academy, under the dynamic leadership of Mr. V. Srikanth, who has partnered with the home to provide structured chess training to its 15 resident girls. Taking the lead as coach is Sri Kameswara Sharma, Advocate and Executive Committee Member of the All Visakha Chess Association — a committed chess lover who believes the game is a powerful tool for mental empowerment.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to think critically, dream boldly, and move strategically — chess teaches all three,” says Sharma, who volunteers his time to personally coach the children.
The program was launched as part of the International Chess Day 2025 celebrations, aligned with the campaign:
“One Move Can Change a Life”, led by the Andhra Chess Association.
The home’s incharge, Smt. Suri Setti Parvati, expressed joy and deep appreciation for the initiative.
“Our girls felt seen and valued today. This is not just a chess lesson; it’s a moment that tells them they matter. We’re grateful to ACA and Sri Chess Academy for bringing this joy into our home.”
A Promising Start with Purpose
During the session, the girls not only learned the basics of the game but also received chess boards and training material, symbolizing a long-term commitment to their development. The focus is clear: make chess a part of their weekly learning routine and nurture hidden talents that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
The serene ambiance of the center, combined with the determination of the organizing team, has set the stage for something much greater — not just chess champions, but confident, thinking young women ready to take on life’s challenges.
Community Champions Leading the Change
With ACA’s visionary leadership and the grassroots commitment of All Visakha Chess Association, this small but significant program shows how community-driven chess outreach can plant seeds of change where it’s needed the most.
In Visakhapatnam, at the Manasu Girl Care Center, the first moves have been made. The game is on — and the future looks brighter with each move.
