A New Move Towards Hope: Chess Training Begins at Parivarthan Life Center, Nandyal
Nandyal | July 20, 2025
As part of the International Chess Day celebrations and the “One Move Can Change a Life” initiative launched by the Andhra Chess Association, a significant and heartfelt step was taken at Parivarthan Life Center, Nandyal, with the introduction of a weekly chess coaching program aimed at transforming young lives.
This program has been taken up under the dynamic mentorship of Sri G. Rama Subba Reddy, Senior National Arbiter and Organising Secretary of Andhra Chess Association, whose selfless devotion to the game and the community is well known across the chess fraternity.
Championing Change Through Chess in the Heart of Rayalaseema
Situated in the culturally vibrant Nandyal district of Rayalaseema region, known for its deep spiritual roots, natural beauty, and strong community values, this initiative brings a refreshing wave of intellectual empowerment to underprivileged children. In a place where tradition meets aspiration, Parivarthan Life Center stands as a beacon of hope and nurturing — now further enriched by the game of chess.
Sri G. Rama Subba Reddy, a seasoned chess official with decades of service, has taken this initiative personally — not only offering free weekly chess training to the children at the Center, but also committing to bear the tournament expenses (including registration, travel, and accommodation) for those children who show promise and talent in the game.
“Every child deserves an opportunity to dream. If we can introduce them to chess, we’re giving them the tools to think critically, plan confidently, and act wisely — both on and off the board,” said Mr. Subba Reddy, visibly moved by the enthusiasm of the children.
Sowing Seeds of Champions
The session saw an overwhelming response from the children and staff, with the initial training sparking excitement and curiosity. The coaching will be held regularly every week, with a structured syllabus designed to suit beginners while identifying prodigious talent for future advanced training.
Sri Subba Reddy, who has officiated numerous national and international events, is also known for mentoring many rural talents who have gone on to achieve laurels at the state and national levels. His passion for chess is matched only by his compassion for the socially and economically underprivileged.
The Andhra Chess Association, under the able leadership of Sri Adusumilli Suresh, has made this outreach program a statewide mission — blending sport, education, and social equity in a way that uplifts the chess community as a whole.
Parivarthan means “Transformation” — and true to its name, this partnership between the Center and Andhra Chess Association is a beautiful example of how a game like chess can open minds, build futures, and change lives — one move at a time.
