A Diamond’s Move: FIDE Instructor Shaik Abdul Azeez Champions Lifelong Chess Mission at Pragathi Charities

In a shining moment for Andhra Pradesh’s chess fraternity, Mr. Shaik Abdul Azeez, a name synonymous with excellence in chess education and grassroots transformation, has launched a long-term chess development initiative at Pragathi Charities, an institution devoted to the care and education of orphans and specially-abled children in SPSR Nellore District.
This noble effort is part of the “One Move Can Change a Life” campaign initiated by the Andhra Chess Association, under the visionary leadership of President Sri A. Suresh Garu, who extended special appreciation to Mr. Azeez for his outstanding commitment to chess and society.
A Multifaceted Chess Icon with a Mission
Shaik Abdul Azeez, FIDE Instructor and Senior National Arbiter, is the Director of ROI Chess Academy, a full-time chess professional, CIS (AP) Trainer, and a passionate advocate of chess-based transformation. Nearing the elite 2000 international Elo mark, Azeez has already left a strong imprint on Andhra Pradesh’s chess education system.
His beginner book series, “ABC – A Basic Chess Curriculum”, has become the cornerstone for thousands of learners across the state. These books were also officially used in the President’s Mission for Chess Education by the Andhra Chess Association.
During the program launch, Mr. Azeez became visibly emotional, saying:
“This is not just a training center. These children are my extended family now. I feel like I’ve returned to my roots. It’s not a one-time event — it’s a life mission.”
ROI Chess Academy Team Joins the Cause
The program will feature structured, ongoing coaching delivered by Mr. Azeez and his dedicated coaching team from ROI Chess Academy:

Ms. Sravani – Trainer
Mr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy – Coach
The team, under Azeez’s direct supervision, will provide weekly professional training, ensuring continuity, performance tracking, and tournament opportunities for deserving children.
Partnership with SPSR Nellore District Chess Association
Organized in collaboration with the SPSR Nellore District Chess Association, affiliated with ACA, this partnership ensures that children from Pragathi Charities will not only receive training but also get formal pathways to compete in district, state, and national tournaments.
Tribute to Mentor Sri K.V.V. Sarma, FA
Mr. Azeez paid heartfelt tribute to his lifelong mentor:
“Whatever I am today is because of my mentor Sri K.V.V. Sarma garu. From childhood to now, he has been my guiding light — I dedicate this project to him.”
