In the world of chess, where patience, strategy, and relentless dedication define greatness, young Master M.P. Sahrudh from Ananthapur, Andhra Pradesh, has taken another confident step towards a bright future. His recent achievement of winning the title in the SRR Below Rating Chess Tournament has not only brought pride to his family and mentors but has also highlighted the emergence of a promising young talent in Indian chess.

Born on 27th June 2013, Sahrudh’s journey in chess began at a very young age. What started as an introduction to the game at the age of six soon transformed into a passion that now drives him to compete and excel at national-level tournaments. Today, Sahrudh is a FIDE-rated player with a Classical rating of 1775, Rapid rating of 1602, and Blitz rating of 1827, reflecting his steady growth and competitive strength on the chessboard.

A student of Cosmos Foundation School, Ananthapur, currently studying in the 7th class, Sahrudh manages to balance academics and chess while also pursuing hobbies such as basketball and swimming. His journey is a fine example of how discipline and focus at a young age can shape a promising sporting career.

Guided by a Dedicated Coach

Behind Sahrudh’s success stands the invaluable guidance of  Arbiter and coach Mr. S. Adiratyna Kumar, whose mentorship has played a crucial role in sharpening the young player’s understanding of the game. Through systematic training, analysis of games, and continuous encouragement, Coach Adiratyna Kumar has helped nurture Sahrudh’s talent and build the confidence required to compete at higher levels.

Every young champion is supported by a strong family, and Sahrudh is no exception. His father, Mr. M.A. Phani Kumar, a Chartered Accountant, and his mother, Mrs. M. Deepthi, an M.Sc. in Computer Science and homemaker, have been instrumental in supporting their son’s chess ambitions.

Their encouragement, sacrifices, and constant motivation have enabled Sahrudh to participate in tournaments and pursue professional training. Such parental support often becomes the backbone of success for young sports talents.

1st Place – Ecoren International Below-1800 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, Vijayawada (2025)

Gold Medal – 69th SGF Andhra Pradesh State Inter-District Team Championship

1st Place – U-13 Category, BDCA All India Below-1800 FIDE Rated Tournament, Belgaum

1st Place – U-11 Category, SOA International Chess Festival, Bhubaneswar

Like many aspiring chess players, Sahrudh looks up to Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen as his inspirations. Studying their games and strategies fuels his ambition to reach the highest levels in the sport.

His ultimate dream is clear—to become a Grandmaster and compete for the World Chess Championship, aiming to cross a FIDE rating of 2650 and beyond.
