KOLLA BHAVAN EMERGES AS U-13 STATE CHESS CHAMPION, A STAR IN THE MAKING
NTR District, Andhra Pradesh – Kolla Bhavan, a talented chess prodigy from NTR district, has clinched the title of U-13 State Chess Champion for the year 2024, showcasing his exceptional skills and determination on the chessboard. Currently, Bhavan boasts an impressive FIDE international rating of 1946, a testament to his rapid progress and exceptional performances.
Belonging to NTR district of Andhra Pradesh, Bhavan began his remarkable journey in chess in 2019 when he earned his first international FIDE rating of 1109 at the Kurnool FIDE Rating Tournament. Since then, his achievements have been nothing short of extraordinary.
- In 2020, Bhavan secured a Gold Medal in the U-10 AP State Chess Championship, which was held online due to the pandemic.
- He won the Silver Medal in the U-12 State Chess Championship in 2022 and had earlier claimed the Bronze Medal in the National U-11 Chess Championship in 2021.
- In 2023, he added another feather to his cap by becoming the U-13 State Chess Champion, and in 2024, he demonstrated his consistency by winning the Silver Medal in the U-15 State Championship and the Gold Medal in the U-14 category of the School Games Federation.
Bhavan's performances on the national stage have been equally impressive. During the 2023 National Chess Championship, he drew games against two International Masters, secured a victory over another International Master, and achieved an incredible draw against a Grandmaster, earning a significant rating boost of 195 points.
His achievements in international tournaments further underline his potential:
- In 2024, he finished 4th in the 1st SON International Festival, Category B, and secured an outstanding 2nd place in the 2nd Indoor International GM Chess Tournament, Category B, in the open category.
- He claimed 3rd place in the Smt. Chanchal Dad Memorial Open International FIDE Tournament and 5th place in the 17th GH Raisoni Memorial Open FIDE Rating Tournament, both in the open category.
Bhavan has participated in over 50 FIDE-rated tournaments and excelled in various age group categories, earning accolades and trophies across the country.
